Ecovacs Deepoo D56 review

The Ecovacs Deepoo D56 is the second vacuum cleaner robot that we have had in the last few months. Although this model is only the second cheapest floor cleaning robot in the Ecovacs portfolio, it offers everything I expect from an average robot.

This robot should be compared in two different ways. First of all it is the second cheapest in the current lineup of Ecovacs vacuum cleaner robots. It is technically the same as the D54 and the D58, but it has a scheduling option (not just a recurring start option as the D54), and it misses the remote control and the area blocking accessories that the D58 has. The top of the line models offer larger area coverage (although not by much), and a dustbin cleaning portable vacuum cleaner (in the D76).

On the other hand the Deepoo D56 in competition with the Roomba 500 series and with most of the cheaper chinese OEM robots. Although Roombas are definitely better and more reliable, iRobot rarely offers docking station bundles in this price range (it can happen though). In small apartments the performance of the Deepoo could be enough, and the convenience added by the dock and the scheduling can simply overcome the weaknesses. Th Deepoo D56 is pricier than most of the Chinese competitors, but it seems to be more reliable and more sophisticated.

The color of the robot is definitely a love it or hate it question. It catches everyone’s eye visiting the house, and to be honest most of them didn’t like the color. It also looks very cheap, and the painted plastic shell doesn’t help to establish the look of a serious product. However the Deepoo D56 is a serious vacuum cleaning robot with a solid feature set (docking station and scheduling some of the more important ones) and a very reasonable pricing. It can be a good addition to small apartments or to multi level houses with smaller floor areas.
