Moneual has significantly improved its hybrid floor cleaning robot that now cleans the floor methodically. I have seen this robot before at IFA in Berlin last year, but at that time it was called Moneual Rydis MR6800M and despite it's look it did not include the top mounted camera. Although Moneual was demoing versions with a camera, I was told that the MR6800M will not have the camera in it. The systematically moving version of the robot was revealed just a few hours ago at one of the warm-up events for CES 2014.
The Moneual Rydis H68 Pro is intended to be sold in the US (the H67 was a Best Buy only model, AFAIK) and sports all the vacuuming, dry mopping and wet mopping features that we saw a few months ago. With the camera on the top of the device Moneual joins the group of manufacturers that provide line-by-line cleaning. The camera monitors the ceiling and furniture above and around the robot that helps to build a map of the cleaned area. This allows the H68 Pro to do a second or third run on the floor moving in lines perpendicular to the first run. With this method the H68 Pro can make sure that even those dust and mud is cleaned that was left there during the first run. In Las Vegas the cleaning process was demonstrated on a small table with a marker and some red wine.
The robot will be available in the US shortly for about $499, but the staff at the Moneual desk had no information about the European launch.
