If you have never heard the name Ememe before it is not your fault. This small Taiwanese robot maker is new on the market but their offering is rather eye-catching. The Tulip 100 is a tulip shaped robotic vacuum cleaner that not only cleans the floor but purifies the air as well. The air sucked in by the vacuum motor is filtered by a HEPA grade filter and than purified with the built in anion air purifier. Chinese manufacturers often have air cleaning feature in their robots due to the highly polluted air in the big cities. Dust is collected in the 0.5 l (17 fl oz) dust bin that is removable on the bottom of the robot.

The Tulip's built in 14.4 V 2200 mAh lithium-ion battery provides enough power to the robot to clean for 100 minutes on a single charge. When the battery is low, the robot returns to its docking station where the batteries are automatically recharged in 3.5 hours.

The 2.7 kg (6 lb) robot uses infrared sensors to avoid collisions and driving off the stairs, and detects collisions with G sensors should they still happen. The use of this sensor allowed the engineers to eliminate the push-in bumper from the front of the robot.

The Tulip comes with an infrared remote control but it can also be controlled through the touch sensitive capacitive surface on the top. The unique shape, the clean lines and the shiny surface makes the robot a lot more attractive than its competitors. The shape of the docking station complements the oval shape of the robot. The Tulip 100 is 8.2 cm (3.2 in) high and 35 cm (13.8 in) wide.

Ememe had three versions of the robot on display at IFA. The Tulip 100 (purple) is planned to be sold in China. It has no brush bar on the bottom, only a thin air inlet, that collects dust from hard floor effectively. The Tulip 110 (brown) is also a China only model and it has a slightly wider opening on the bottom to pick up larger debris as well. Customers in Europe and in America will get the Tulip 120 that sports an approx. 10 cm long (4 in) brush bar at the opening to do a better job on carpet.
