There is no need to risk our lives on the top of a ladder to clean the gutter any more because iRobot Looj 330 can clean them automatically. Looj is not a new product at all, it has bee in iRobot's portfolio for years, but it was often overlooked behind the Roomba and Scooba robots. Just before CES 2013 iRobot has announced the newest version of the series, adding that the downsized robot will be available internationally. The robot is 6 mm (1/4 in) slimmer and narrower than it's predecessors what makes it suitable for gutters in use in Europe as well.

This year iRobot had a decent exhibition area that included a demonstration stand for the Looj 330. The demo gutter was covered with a clear plastic shield to protect the stage and the spectators from flying leafs and debris. Once it was started the Looj 330 advanced through the gutter filled with dry leafs while the revolving rubber paddles swept out all debris.

To use the robot it is necessary to climb the ladder at only one place at each straight sections of the gutter. After setting the direction of the paddles on the detachable handle (that works as a wireless remote control) the iRobot Looj can be started with the push of the Clean button. The robot will go all the way until it reaches the end of the gutter, than returns to the operator. When automatic cleaning is not suitable for any reason, the Looj can be controlled from the remote control.

Although the Looj is waterproof, it is not a good idea to leave it in the gutter. It has to be put on a charger after 200 linear feet of gutter cleaned. This is usually enough to finish cleaning all the gutters of an average home. The 7.2V 2,600 mAh lithium-ion battery of the Looj 330 is recharged in about 3 hours.

Although iRobot plans to sell the new Looj internationally, it is still unclear where will it be available first in the upcoming months. American customers can order it immediately from the manufacturer's website, but I hope I can also test it on my own house in Europe as well.
