In January this year, at CES I have heard about the second generation of the robot, and only a few months later it was ready for some demonstrations. Engineers have redesigned the user interface for easier operation. The new outer design looks a lot more like a regular home appliance than an industrial cleaner. The new lithium-polymer batteries can be charged faster and last longer on a single charge than the lithium-ion batteries of the current generation.

Meanwhile the first generation was upgraded to have larger rotating pads and extra cleaning pads for the inner side of the window (the original version only cleans one side of the window at a time).

Windoro was the very first window cleaning robot that could clean windows autonomously. The robot consists of two parts that go on the two opposite sides of the window pane. The two units are held together by strong magnets, and depending on the version, they can clean both single pane and double pane windows. The second generation due next year will be able to handle both window types up to 28 mm (1.1 in) thickness with the same pair of units.

The first generation of the robot is already available in France, Germany and in Canada, but the second generation will not be ready for mass production until spring 2013.
