Yujin iClebo Arte vacuum cleaning robot

Yujin booth at CES 2012

Yujin is a well known robot maker in South Korea, but it is probably not very familiar to many people outside the Korean peninsula. They have been in the robotic vacuum cleaning business for years now, and they are known from being the OEM manufacturer of the Philips HomeRun robotic vacuum cleaner. Yujin was one of the few robot makers at CES that had something new on the show. Their new model, called iClebo Arte has a lower profile (8.9 cm - 3.5 in) and the climbing capability can be adjusted up to 2 cm (0.8 in).

Techko Maid robots

The first company I bumped into at CES 2012 was Techko Maid. I have seen some of their robots before on the internet, but this was the first time I saw them in action. They currently offer three robotic floor cleaners:

LG press conference at CES 2012

First appearance of LG Hom-Bot in Dr. Scott Ahn's presentation

Today is the first full day of CES in Las Vegas, but this is only for press and analysts. There won't be too many interesting press conferences today since only the largest companies have the chance to draw the attention of the crowd in 45 minutes blocks. The first of all events was of LG where I hoped to see some advancements in the Smart ThinQ and robotics technology. The product group has first appeared in the presentation of Dr. Scott Ahn, president and chief technology officer of LG Electronics.

Things to expect at CES 2012

Welcome to Las Vegas - arriving to McCarran Airport

CES is the place where most of the consumer electronic product announcements happen every year. It wasn't surprising to see Neato and Evolution Robotics introducing their first products to the public here, but iRobot has also used this event to in 2011 to unveil the new Roomba and Scooba models.

Robotics seems to be one of the exiting Tech Zones at CES 2012, but looking through the exhibitors list of that section, most of the company names are rather unknown to the public. Where are the big names? Are they all ditching the show this year?

The Consumer Electronic Show, as the largest such trade show, has been the location of household robot announcements in the past years. In 2010 we have seen the Neato XV-11 and the Mint Cleaner to debut there, and it has brought us the new Scooba and Roomba 700 series last year.
