LG has quietly announced three more RoboKings

Most of the LG Roboking robot cleaners are Korea only models, therefore it is not a surprise that the expansion of the current lineup wasn't announced internationally. Earlier this month a Korean press release described the VR6172LVM model to be the first domestic cleaning robot to test itself and inform its owner about problems in voice messages.

Self diagnostics, or Smart Diagnostics as the press release calls the function, checks all the different sensors, the cameras, and more than 14 kinds of items during a 50 cm (20") round-trip test run. It takes about 30 seconds and provides help to the owner of the robot to resolve minor problems, like blocked sensors or foreign object on the brushes.
To geeks it might seems like a minor and unnecessary update, but it is a right step forward to make these rather complicated tools suitable for technically less advanced users, like elderly people.
The VR61xxLVM robots are refined and face-lifted versions of the VR59xxKL robots that were originally announced in 2009. LG introduced improved algorithms (30% faster), better ultrasonic sensors (recognizes obstacles down to 1 cm width), quieter operation (48 db) and the ability to continue cleaning in the same spot where it was interrupted. This latter feature allows the owner to replace the microfiber cloth on the bottom of the robot during cleaning without the robot losing track of cleaned and uncleaned areas. If the new cloth is installed within 10 minutes, the robot will go back to the spot where it was stopped and will continue operation from there.

The three new models introduced this month seem to be identical, except their colors. All three are available only in South Korea and most probably speak only Koran in diagnostics mode. The robots sell for 779,000 won what translates to €520 or $740.
