LG brings Roboking vacuum cleaning robots to Europe

LG Electronics in France has announced today that together with LG's Italian offices they start the sales of LG's Roboking vaccum cleaner robot line. In France the first and only model that goes on sale from the originally 8 member lineup is called Roboking VR1027R and seems to be almost identical to the VR5902KL sold exclusively in South Korea. There is one important issue to mention though: while the Korean version passed the noise tests with a 50 dB reading, the European model has 60 dB listed in its specifications.

In Italy sales start with three models, and interestingly these robots are named almost like their Korean siblings. The VR5901LVM, the VR5902LVM and the VR5906LM are the European versions of the VR5901KL, VR5902KL and VR5906KL respectively. The first two models apart from their colors (VR5901LVM is black while VR5902LVM is red) are identical, while the third, light green robot lacks one camera on the bottom. The Italian website of LG is very short on specs, so no noise data is available to confirm the French number.

The 5th generation of LG Roboking vacuum cleaning robots are designed to clean hard floors including tile, hardwood, vinyl and laminated floors. Based on our experience they are not good on carpets, and tend to have trouble crossing doorsills. On the right floor though, they clean very quickly and efficiently, due to the outstanding Visionary Mapping System they use. The robots cover the floor area in a systematic manner, and thanks to the ultrasonic distance sensors they rarely bump into obstacles.

The most unique feature of LG Roboking robots is the low noise level they operate at. While most of the vacuum cleaning robot are at least 60 dB loud (still much quieter than regular vacuum cleaners), Roboking's noise level is only 50 dB. That's quiet enough to let the robot clean the house before the family wakes up in the morning.

Unfortunately all these great features don't come cheap. While most vacuum cleaning robots sell well under €500, the Roboking will cost around €650 when sales starts later this month.
