Three new robotic vacuum cleaners from MSI

MSI M800

After conquering the computer world the biggest Taiwanese computer manufacturers are turning towards household robotics now. After Acer and Asus doing the first steps, the third giant, MSI has introduced three new vacuum cleaner robots at Computex 2010 in Taiwan. The most important model, the M800, according to the assistants at the show floor, uses an advanced technology to map the rooms, giving the robot help to smartly plan its route. The M800 uses ultrasonic radar technology to recognize obstacles and runs 85-110 minutes on one charge. The robot comes with a remote control, and can be pre-programmed to a weekly schedule with distinct startup times in each weekdays. Based on the videos available on Youtube, it's fair to say that the M800 is another solid Roomba clone with some ultrasonic upgrade.

The second model is named R500 and can do more or less the same as the M800, but in a smaller form factor. The main difference between the two robots is their height. While the M800 is over 10 cm (4"), the R500 is only 5 (2"), allowing it to go under lower furnitures as well. The drawback is in the considerably shorter battery life: it can only operate around 50 minutes on one charge.

The third model is equipped with a wireless web camera allowing the R1300 to double as an autonomous surveillance device. The stream captured by the camera can be watched remotely, and the operation of the robot is also possible from the remote network.

According to the representatives of MSI the robots first will only be sold domestically.
