Samsung brings vacuum cleaning robots to Europe

« Previous Next »

Samsung has today introduced their robotic vacuum cleaner lineup to the European market. The robots previously were sold only in South Korea, but recently been released in Canada as well. Samsung will use the Navibot model name to identify these new products that are basically refined versions of the Tango robots announced a few months ago in South Korea.

Samsung Navibots are similar in size and shape to the well known Roombas, but sport a built in camera to help navigation around the house. The camera monitors the ceiling and upper parts of the walls to record each movement. Combining this with the ultrasonic distance sensors, the robot is able to map the room and all the furnitures in it, providing enough information to plan the optimal route to cover the whole floor area. Navibots are equally capable of cleaning hard surface and carpet floors, and are able to cross door sill up to 1.5 cm.

The robots will be available in two versions. Navibot SR8845 will be a cheaper, simpler model with regular buttons, and delayed starting, while Navibot SR8855 will have a touch sensitive user interface, a quick empty dust bin and a weekly scheduling program.
